Dumped Dogs

Two bully breeds were dumped on the streets by people who didn’t want them anymore. On top of that, local shelters are all refusing to take any animals in due to canine influenza outbreaks. So Penny’s took them off the streets. But these two pups could not integrate with our pack, and they also needed immediate veterinary attention. Luckily, an amazing rescue in Northern Florida stepped up and we transferred them there. Unfortunately, the male passed away as he was dumped with end-stage heartworm. We were devastated at this clear case of neglect and cruelty. The female had a clean bill of health and is now available for adoption. Penny’s is continuing to support and search for an adopter for her (she is pictured below). Please reach out to us if you are interested! She is a fantastic dog, and we won’t settle for less than the perfect home for her.

Jasper

A White German Shepherd was also found running around our local neighborhood. Nobody was claiming or helping him, so we scooped him off the streets too. His temporary foster home couldn’t keep him any longer, so he got transferred here on July 7th. His name is Jasper. He has an incredibly sweet and mellow demeanor, and does well with all our resident animals. The plan is to transfer him to a dedicated German Shepherd rescue. For now, we will care for him here.

Bert & Ernie

Bert and Ernie arrived on 7/10 as an emergency case. They were found with 18 other dogs, and a large number of other animals, in a criminal neglect and abuse situation in Central Florida. A good Samaritan rushed into the home to rescue the dogs, who were being caged, tethered and neglected before and after their previous owners went to jail for said neglect. Two of the dogs are senior citizens, aged 12 and 14, and placement with a shelter will be virtually impossible. Penny’s welcomed these two sweet boys here with open arms. Bert has a cough, Ernie has trouble walking, and one of them comes with a heart murmur (clarification on this during the chaos of rescuing them out of there was not possible). These boys will need food, bedding, ear and skin treatment for their allergies, flea prevention - and most importantly, veterinary care. We are asking people to donate anything they can for this.

It takes a village!
