Lucy & Ethel’s Story

Lucy and Ethel were abandoned, neglected, and left for dead at approximately 10-12 years old. When it was discovered that their owner left them behind and wasn’t coming back, the county was threatening to euthanize these poor girls. Because they were senior pigs, no adopters were stepping up.

Their hooves were so overgrown, they could no longer walk. Because of this, they gained too much weight and became both obese and arthritic.

On day one here at Penny’s, the girls received a crucial hoof trimming and were put on arthritis medications to help them be more comfortable and to decrease their inflammation.

Both girls are now spoiled with plenty of fresh straw, fresh fruit and veg meals, and a healthy diet made just for pigs. They spend lots of time sleeping in their bedroom. They may have never had any of that before, based on their joyful reaction to all of it. They will require ongoing veterinary care to remain comfortable and happy.

Their favorite pastime is to finish their meal and then steal food from the birds and squirrels!
